Learning Through Play

Do you wonder what your child is learning each time they attend Pre-School and how they are developing?

Did you know that each activity is planned in line with the 'Early Years Foundation Stage'. The four themes of the EYFS are: A Unique Child, Positive Relationships, Enabling Environments, Learning and Development.

  • A Unique Child : every child is a competent learner from birth who can be resilient, capable, confident and self assured.
  • Positive Relationships : children learn to be strong and independent from a base of a loving and secure relationship with parents and/or a key person.
  • Enabling Environments : the environment plays a key role in supporting and extending children's development and learning.
  • Learning and Development : children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates and all areas of Learning and Development are equally important and inter-connected.

The planning for each week is available for you to view, just ask our supervisor who will be happy to discuss it with you.

You can find out what your child learns from each of the areas at Pre-School by looking on our notice board. The areas covered are:

Plus

The days' activities are planned around  themes of interest expressed by the children through their spontaneous play.

Many of our activities allow our Staff to spend time either on a one to one or small group basis with the children.

The children are able to enjoy their mid-morning refreshments cafe style. Children who are attending Lunchtimes on a Monday and Wednesday are well supervisored to cater for all their individual needs.

The children are welcome to choose a library book to enjoy at home.

Barney Bear

Barney is our Pre-School Bear, who is taken home with our children on a rota, or special need basis.  He is much loved by our children and their faces light up when a child is told that "Today Barney is going home with ......"  He comes with his own diary, where parents are invited to write about his adventures, glue in photographs of him with their child at home, or even have drawings about his time with their child drawn by older children.

Our Committee

Our Committee and Staff are always pleased to invite new members to become involved with the Pre-School.

Our Committee Meetings are generally held once a term and are very sociable and a good way to get to know other parents, carers and grandparents.  Most importantly you get to have a say in how your child's Pre-School is run and you are able to play a valuable part in maintaining high standards of childcare that the Pre-School provides.

Please talk to a member of Staff or look out for our Committee Meeting posters on the Parent's Notice Board.
